Go to http://www.livinghistoryfarm.org/farminginthe30s/water_07.html Read the page and then click on the interview to listen to Walter Ballard talk about his experience. Go to http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/americanexperience/features/interview/rails-tales/ and read three of the several "tales of the rails." Then, write a diary entry from the point of view of a teenager who was riding the rails during the Depression based on the accounts you just read or listened to. Homework: finish diary entry and Theme sentence.
